To be able to watch programmes in High Definitionb (HD), you will need the following equipment:
HD ready TV
A HD ready TV is a television set that is able to accept HD products via a socket, at the back of the set. The socket will either accept a HDMI cable or a DVI cable.
HDMI Cable
A HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) cable is similar to a USB cable, it is doubled ended and links your HD ready TV to another HD appliance. HDMI digitally transmits video and audio signals between digital devices, giving the consumer the sharpest pictures, and the clearest sounds available.
DVI Connection
A DVI (Digital Visual Interface) connection is similar to a scart lead, with double-ended pins. The DVI cable connects your TV to any other digital display device. This cable was designed to maximise the visual quality of digital devices. One can view HD TV by inserting a DVI/HDMI lead.
A HD set-top box
A Sky HD set-top box is similar to a Sky+ TV box, but it has the ability to receive HD programmes as well as the usual functions. HD programmes are broadcast in High Definition, which offers crystal clear pictures and amazing Dolby Digital surround sound. A Sky HD Box is the firm favourite to receive this new technology. The HD set-top box is connected to your HD Television via the HDMI cable.
